Stangs suffer another close loss

Battlefords North Stars 5   Melfort Mustangs 4

For the second straight night the Melfort Mustangs found themselves in a hole early.

Two Stars goals in the first 5 minutes set it up for a long night for the Mustangs who only mustered 4 shots in the entire period.

Cody Brown notched his first career SJHL goal midway thru the second period but just five minutes later the Stars regained their two goal lead off the stick of Spencer Gosselin who potted two on the night.

Brandon Sloan kicked off the third period with his fifth goal of the year but just like the previous period the Stars answered quickly. Even Ripley notched his first goal of the season just two minutes later to help the Stars take a 4-2 lead.

Godric Tham made it 4-3 when he slid one past Casey Parker but like clockwork the Stars clawed back. Less than one minute last Braeden Johnson notched the eventual winner on a scramble in front.

Brandon Sloan would add one more but it was too little too last and a last minute 6-4 PP charge came up empty.

The Mustangs are now off until Friday when they host Melville.

LOOSE THREADS:

-The Mustangs were 0/6 on the powerplay last night and have only scored two with the man advantage this season.

-Jesse Wilkins made his 2nd straight start and made 38 saves in the losing effort.

-The Mustangs acquired former North Star Bryden Serafini for future considerations earlier this week. He has only practiced twice with the club has he rehabs a lingering upper body injury.
