April 29, 2013 - The Melfort Mustangs are proud to announce that graduating defenseman Brandon Parrone has committed to the St. Scholastica Saints, who play in the NCAA Division III Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

Parrone (Peoria, AZ), arrived in Melfort at the midway point of the 2011/2012 season and appeared in 94 games for the Mustangs putting up 5 goals and 13 assists.

Parrone says furthering his school while playing hockey is a dream come true.

"It's the whole reason I chose junior hockey was so I could go to college and St. Scholastica is a really good program."

Parrone logged more minutes than any defenseman in the stretch run and playoffs and his numbers showed.

In 8 playoffs games, Parrone had 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points.

Parrone says he owes a lot to the Mustangs organization.

"Gavin Holcomb did an awesome job putting my name out there and bringing scouts in. The Mustangs gave me a chance when other teams wouldn't and I was really allowed to flourish and have a good career and I’m glad I came."

The 12/13 Saints roster featured former SJHL'ers Keegan Bruce (Weyburn) and Colin Phaneuf (Battlefords).

Parrone will enter the pre-dental program with plans to major in dentistry or bio-chemistry.
