Barry Alvin Caul Boreen

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Barry Boreen in Melfort, SK, on July 13, 2013. Barry passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the age of 62.

Barry was born in Langenburg, SK, on February 12, 1951, to Ray and Esther Boreen. He attended school in Churchbridge and was active in 4-H, Air Cadets, baseball, and hockey.

Barry convocated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1973 with a degree in Agriculture. He worked for 37.5 years for Federated Co-op before retiring in 2011.

Barry married his wife, Beverly, on June 29, 1974. They were blessed with two children, Jennifer and Aaron. Barry also adored his two grandchildren, Will and Norah, who will miss Grandpa Barry dearly.

Barry was a Life Member of the Kinsmen Club of Melfort. He was active in St. Paul's Lutheran Church and with the Melfort Mustangs over the years. He loved to be woodworking, gardening, or golfing, but Barry's passion was baseball. He was an umpire for 25 years and attained national certification. He was honoured to be invited to umpire at eight national tournaments. Barry also helped mentor a new generation of umpires through instructing umpire clinics.

We will remember with fondness Barry's humour, generosity, and compassion. He taught us how to be good people.

Barry was predeceased by his father, Ray Boreen; numerous aunts and uncles; his father-in-law, Roman Skakun; mother-in-law, Nellie Skakun; brother-in-law, Dave Balon; and sisters-in-law, Carole Balon and Gwen Balon. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Beverly; his daughter, Jennifer (Scott) and their children, Will and Norah; his son, Aaron (Krista); his mother, Esther; his sister, Judy (Darrell); his brother, Pat; nieces Tammy and Heather; nephews Todd and Colby; and a large extended family.

The family would like to thank the staff of Melfort Union Hospital, Melfort Home Care, St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon Cancer Centre, and Dr. Hanekom for their care and support.

A Funeral Service will be held from the Kerry Vickar Centre, Melfort, SK on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Rojar Singh officiating. Interment will take place in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be directed to Melfort Minor Baseball c/o Melfort & District Minor Sports Association, Box 2668, Melfort, SK S0E 1A0.
