Mustangs Nip The Hawks

Knock off Nipawin 5-1

 

October 2The Melfort Mustangs took game one of the 8 game season series against the Nipawin Hawks, 5-1 last night at the Palace.

The Mustangs tallied 3 times in a span of 2:02, in the opening 4:04 of the middle frame.

Rookie Travis Mayan recorded his first SJHL goal while Brandon Sloan was one shy of his first career hat-trick. 

Jamie Miller and Adam Fauchoux added singles while Austin Rediron was spectacular once again on home ice making 23 saves for his 2nd win of the season.

The Mustangs out shot the Hawks 20-5 in the second period and 33-24 overall.

New additions Dexter Bricker and Riley Boomgaarden were solid in their first games as Mustangs, after being sent down by WHL clubs. Boomgaarden recorded an assist and 4 PIMS and was awarded the Dutch Crunch for hardest hitter while Bricker had an assist, 6 PIMS and was named the games 3rd star.

The Mustangs are idle until next Wednesday when they host the Weyburn Red Wings, 7:30 at the Palace.
