Catz n’ Jammers 3 Stars of the Month – January

The Melfort Mustangs are right in the thick of things in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League as the last full month of the regular season approaches. In January, the Mustangs held a 4-4-1-0 record, leading them to a current tie for third place in the SJHL with 56 points through 44 games.

Here are your Catz n’ Jammers 3 Stars of the Month for January.

 

1st Star: Marco Lopez (9gp, 2G, 10A, 12Pts)

For the second month in a row, Marco Lopez is your first start as he continues to produce for the Mustangs. In nine games over the month of January, Lopez scored two goals and added 10 assists.

The 20-year-old forward had points in seven out of nine games, and had three multi-point nights.

Overall, Lopez has 19 goals, and 23 assists for 42 points in 41 games, good for third on the team, and 10th in the SJHL. He’s also tied for 10th in the league in goals.

 

2nd Star: Nolan Doell (8gp, 6G, 4A, 10Pts)

Nolan Doell put the puck in the net more than any other Mustang in the month of January. He scored six times, and added four assists over eight games in the month.

The 20-year-old had two massive games in January, first scoring twice and adding two assists in the Jan. 14 game against Humboldt. That was followed by a two goal, one assist effort against his former team, the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

Overall, Doell has scored 26 goals and added 17 assists for 43 points, 17 of those points have come in 17 games in a Mustang uniform. He’s currently tied for third in the SJHL in goals.

 

3rd Star: Carter Anderson (9gp, 5G, 5A, 10Pts)

Carter Anderson was extremely consistent in the month of January. He scored five times and added five assists for 10 points through 9 games.

Anderson had a five game point streak during the month, a stretch that including scoring a goal in four straight games. He also added a four assist night on Jan. 28 against Notre Dame.

On the season, Anderson has 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points in 41 games. He’s fifth on the team in scoring.

 

The Mustangs are on the road this weekend to take on the Battlefords North Stars and Kindersley Klippers.
