Catz n’ Jammers 3 Stars of the Month: January

After a bit of a slow start to 2023, the Melfort Mustangs put the pedal down in the final few weeks of January to earn a 6-3-0-1 record in the month, helping them stay right in the thick of things in the SJHL standings heading into the final month and a half of the regular season. There were a number of players who turned up their game in January, but these are your Catz n’ Jammers 3 Stars of the Month for January.

1st Star: Ben Tkachuk (10gp, 4G, 16A, 20pts)

Nobody in the SJHL notched more assists or points than the Mustangs Captain who assisted on 16 goals in January, and scored four of his own for 20 points in just 10 games. Ben Tkachuk continues to step up his game as January was his first month with more than 10 points. He currently sits 10th in the SJHL in scoring and is the reigning MVP of the Month in the SJHL.

2nd Star: Dawson Leroux (10gp, 7G, 8A, 15pts)

The Mustangs Assistant Captain paced the team in goals in January, scoring a total of seven times. Dawson Leroux had four multi-point games in January and continues to score and score big goals as he’s now up to 20 on the season, tied for the team lead. He’s tied for 11th in scoring in the SJHL.

3rd Star: Clarke Huxley (10gp, 4G, 7A, 11pts)

Earning points in eight out of 10 games in January, Clarke Huxley has really turned his game up a notch. The Mustangs return to game action on February 4th and 5th as they head west for meetings with Battlefords and Kindersley.
