The Melfort Mustangs wrapped up the month of January with a home contest against the Weyburn Red Wings last week. Overall it wasn’t the best month of the season for the Mustangs, but it ended on a high note, and sets up a really long stretch of home games in February. One highlight from January includes the Mustang debut for forward Austin Nault. He picked up a goal in his first game as a Mustang in Kindersley. Thanks to Catz N Jammers in Melfort we bring the Stars of the Month for January!
Tian Rask
Tian Rask had a great January, and with it comes his first selection as a star of the month. In the month of January he scored 3 times and added 5 assists for 8 points, in just 7 games. Rask was acquired from the Canmore Eagles in early December and despite missing a few games around Christmas he now has 12 points in just 14 games as a Mustang.
Alex Rondeau
Alex Rondeau is a star of the month for the second time this season, his first since November 2019. Rondeau, like Rask, came back from injury and had a very good end of January. In 6 games played Rondeau scored 1 goal and added 7 assists for an 8 point month. Rondeau currently sits second in team scoring by a defencemen and 6th overall in the SJHL. He’s scored 8 times this year and has added 22 assists for 30 points.
Kenzie Arnold
Kenzie Arnold just couldn’t be ignored once again this month as he had a solid January. Arnold who has been a Star of the Month twice already (September, December) led the Mustangs in scoring in January. In 9 games, Arnold had 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points. The Dodsland, Saskatchewan product, has played 185 career regular season games in the SJHL and with playoffs he’s already broken the 200 game mark. He leads the Mustangs in both goals with 19 and points with 39.
Once again thank you to Catz N Jammers in Melfort for supplying our Players of the Month! We will see how February shakes out and name 3 more stars before seasons end!
