The Catz n’ Jammers-Melfort Mustangs 3 Stars of the Month for October
The Month of October has come and gone and the Melfort Mustangs enjoyed a nice month in the SJHL. In October games the Mustangs went 7-2-3 including a 3-0-2 mark on home ice. Thanks to contributions from all aspects, the Mustangs have moved into sole possession of 2nd place in the SJHL behind the Battlefords North Stars.
Thanks to Catz N Jammers in Melfort for once again bringing to you the Melfort Mustangs 3 Stars of the Month for October! Similar to last month there were many players in the running but ultimately, in no particular order, Nolan Kadachuk, Zach Anderson and Tyson Meyers are this month’s Mustang Players of the Month. All three played in all 12 games and were big reasons for the success on the ice in October!
Nolan Kadachuk
Like September, Melfort’s own Nolan Kadachuk paced all Mustang defencemen in October. In 12 games, Nolan scored 2 goals and added 9 assists for 11 points. Kadachuk has been great on the powerplay, but where he really shined in October was in 5 on 5 hockey. On the season, 13 of 19 points have come at even strength, which is quite high for someone who plays the majority of powerplay time. Nolan and D-partner Alex Rondeau have played great at all 200 feet of the ice, and have both been recognized by the SJHL for their play! Kadachuk was also named the SJHL Dman of the Month Runner up for September/October.
Zach Anderson
Zach Anderson had a great month of October, arguably his best month as a Mustang. He led the team with 13 points in 12 games, 6 goals and 7 assists. Anderson started the month with a 6 game point streak that saw him put up 10 of his 13 points. Zach was huge in kicking off a southern road trip in Estevan, he scored twice and added an assist for a 3 point game. The Mustangs would win 5-4 over the Bruins that night. Anderson currently has 17 points in 18 games this season and sits 3rd among team scoring.
Tyson Meyers
The Mustang Captain and Melfort born forward is our 3rd member of the Stars of the Month. Meyers along with Anderson had a great month, the two played on the same line the majority of October and reaped the benefits of 3 seasons on the same team. In 12 October games, Meyers scored 6 goals and 4 assists for 10 points. Like Anderson, Meyers also had a 3 point night in Estevan on October 18th. Meyers also led the team on October 4th vs Humboldt. That was another 3 point night as Tyson scored twice and added an assist. The 2019-20 season has been good to Meyers, he’s already set a new career high with 6 goals. His 13 points are on pace to pass his career high last season of 20. Now as a 20-year old and captain of the team Meyers has been a leader both on and off the ice.
The Mustangs kick off the month of November on Wednesday night when they host the Melville Millionaires. Puck drops at 7:30pm at the Northern Lights Palace!
