TORONTO – The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) announced Thursday that goaltender Kristian Coombs (Melfort Mustangs/SJHL) as well as forwards Loic Prud’homme (Carleton Place Canadians/CCHL) and Daxton Lang (Kam River Fighting Walleye/SIJHL) have been named its CJHL 3 Stars of the Month – Fuelled by Gatorade, for December.
1st Star: Kristian Coombs, (G) Melfort Mustangs – A solid final month of 2024 saw the 19-year-old netminder from Calgary, Alta., win all seven of his starts for the front-runners in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
In each of his victories, Coombs allowed no more than two pucks to get past him, finishing with a goals-against average of 1.57 and an equally solid .931 save percentage.
His overall contributions between the pipes for Melfort, so far this season, helped his side go on a 17-game winning streak, which was the longest in the SJHL since the Humboldt Broncos accomplished the feat during the 2011-12 campaign.
In his second season with the reigning Canterra Seeds Cup champions, Coombs currently leads the SJHL in wins and GAA at 19 and 1.98 respectively. Meanwhile, his .927 save mark is third-best and he’s tied for first in shutouts with three.
