The Melfort Mustangs are extremely proud to announce that 2002-born goaltender Joel Favreau has committed to SUNY-Geneseo in NCAA-III for the 2023/2024 season.

Favreau, out of Prince Albert, Sask., is currently in his third season with the Mustangs after joining the club for the 2020/2021 COVID-shortened season. In 29 regular season games this year, Favreau sported a 14-6-4-1 record, to go along with a 2.56 goals-against-average, and a .913 save-percentage. He also earned three shutouts this regular season.
During the 2021/2022 season, Favreau was 14-7-2-1 with a 2.74 goals-against-average, and a .902 save-percentage, as well as one shutout. Favreau played in two games as a rookie during the shortened 2020/2021 season, and was 1-1, only allowing three goals on 54 shots.
The playoffs are where Favreau has really shined as a Mustangs. In six playoff games this season, the 6’1”,183lbs netminder is 4-1-1, with a 2.07 goals-against-average, and a .922 save percentage as the Mustangs finished off La Ronge in six game. Last season, while the Mustangs fell in seven games to Yorkton, Favreau managed a 3-2-2 record with a 2.26 goals-against average, and a.926 save percentage.
Favreau’s 70 games played across the regular season and playoffs is currently 10th all-time in Mustangs history among goalies.
