First-Round Pick Commits to Mustangs for 2022/2023

The Melfort Mustangs are excited to announce that 2006-born forward Riley Ashe has committed to the Mustangs for the 2022/2023 SJHL season.

Ashe, a Warman, Sask. product, was drafted 10th overall in the the 2022 SJHL Draft on Friday, June 10.

“We’re very excited to add our 2022 first-round pick into our lineup immediately,” said Mustangs Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins. “Although young in age, Riley is a talented player with great vision and we expect Riley to play a big role on our team and he will have the opportunity to succeed at this level. Riley has already had some Division I NCAA interest and having that exposure will be great for our program moving forward.”

The 6’, 161 lbs forward spent this past season with the Saskatoon Blazers in Saskatchewans U18 AAA league. In 43 regular season games, Ashe scored nine goals and added 18 assists for 27 points. He would also add two assists in seven regular season games.

Prior to joining the Blazers, Ashed played parts of three seasons with the Warman Wildcats U15 AA squad. In 44 combined regular season and playoff games, Ashe scored 31 goals and added 28 assists for 56 points.
