The Melfort Mustangs are back on home ice tonight after almost a week away from game action. Tonight marks the 5th game in a 5 game home stand for the Melfort boys. Game time is 7:30pm vs Kindersley.
The Mustangs have enjoyed a 6 day break between games but are ready to get back at it tonight. Following a tough 3-2 loss to Flin Flon last Thursday the Mustangs find themselves with games in hand on everyone in the SJHL. But will need to get some wins in order to get back near the top of the SJHL Standings. Two key acquisitions last week are both ready to go for Melfort tonight in what would be their first SJHL games. 1998′ D Marshall Skapski was acquired from Cowichan Valley last week and has played 178 career BCHL games. Also 1999′ G Shawn Parkinson, who Melfort acquired from Drayton Valley has practiced with the team and would also be available for tonight’s games.
For Kindersley they’ve struggled recently. Losing their last 3 games and getting only one point over that stretch has seen Humboldt leap frog them into first in the Global Ag Risk Solutions Division. The Klippers back end and goaltending hasn’t been a problem for them lately. Led by Justen Close one of the best goalies in the SJHL. It’s been trying to find the back of the net at the other end of the rink that’s been the problem. The Klippers have scored only 3 goals over the 3 game slide and that won’t win a lot of games in the SJHL. All 3 of those games have been on the road. The Klippers wrap up a 4 game road trip tonight in Melfort before returning home to West Central Events Centre on Friday.
