The Melfort Mustangs are proud to announce that 2001-born forward Curtis Hammond has committed to St. Norbert College for post-secondary hockey.
Hammond, a Fort St. John, B.C. product, came to the Mustangs prior to the 2021/2022 SJHL season, and immediately made an impact for the Mustangs. Hammond scored three goals over his first two games in blue and green and didn’t look back. He scored a total of 28 goals on the season, the second-most on the Mustangs, and tied for the seventh most in the SJHL. Hammond also added 22 assists to total 50 points in the regular season, good for third on the team.
“I chose St. Norbert College to further my education and hockey career because of the outstanding history and the culture of the school,” Hammond said. “Hearing all the good things from people around me and past coaches really assured me that St. Norbert was the place to play. The coaching staff and everyone involved in the program is top tier. It couldn’t have happened without the countless support from my family, friends, coaches, and teammates. I’m excited to get down to Wisconsin and get things started.
Hammond would also go on to tally four goals and three assists for seven points in seven games during the playoffs this season.
Prior to his time in Melfort, Hammond spent two years in the AJHL, starting his Junior ‘A’ career with the Bonnyville Pontiacs in 2019/2020 scoring four goals and adding 11 assists in 36 games. He would also play in one playoff game. Then, in 2020/2021, Hammond would play in a total of 11 games with the Grand Prairie Storm, scoring one goal and adding an assist.
Hammond would also play 47 total games for the Cariboo Cougars in the BC U18 AAA circuit.
The St. Norbert College Green Knights are part of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association in NCAA Division III.
