Mayan is headed to Augustana!

MELFORT MUSTANG SUPERSTAR TO PLAY IN ALBERTA, HIS HOME PROVINCE

Travis Mayan, a player near and dear to the hearts of many Melfort Mustang fans, has found a new home in the University of Alberta Augustana Campus Vikings. The Rimbey, Alberta native has enjoyed an extremely successful career with the Mustangs, putting up monster numbers and propelling the team to back to back Canalta Cup victories.

Born in 1995, Travis played a single game in the AJHL before coming to the SJHL and really hitting his groove. He spent three years in the SJHL as a Mustang, and got statistically better every year. In the 2013/2014 season Travis had 19 goals and 23 helpers, in the 53 games he played in regular season. With six play-off games he added another 2 goals and 5 assists to bring his yearly total points up to 49. And he was just getting started.

2014/2015 saw Travis explode in the SJHL, playing 56 regular season games, scoring 40 goals and adding 44 assists he doubled his output during his rookie season. This performance helped the Mustangs secure a second straight Sherwood Division title, while earning himself the three separate accolades from the SJHL; RBC’s Player of the Year, SGEU’s Most Valuable Player, and the SJHL’s Top Scorer. Play-offs in 2015 didn’t see Mayan slow down at all as he added another 11 goals and 10 assists over 14 games on route to the Melfort Mustang’s first SJHL Championship in 19 years. With the pressure of two great seasons propelling him, Travis made his senior year in the league one to remember.

Playing in 57 out of the 58 games that season Travis bettered himself over his already impressive performance in 2014/2015. Scoring 46 goals and contributing 47 assists brought his SJHL regular season total points over the 200 mark, settling at a very impressive 219 total points over 166 totals games. Yes, Mayan averaged more than a point per game with the Mustangs, a very impressive feat to add to his glistening hockey resume. The 2015/2016 play-offs proved to be a bit of a longer haul for the Mustangs, who required 17 games to earn their second straight Canalta Cup, but Travis was there every step of the way. He posted 12 goals and 11 assists during that run, and gave the fans a terrific conclusion to three thrilling years of hockey. Thank you Travis, for all your hard work both on the ice and in the town of Melfort. We wish you the very best moving forward, and will remember you fondly as one of our Minions.
