Melfort Hangs on to Beat the Bombers

PLOTNIK WAS PHENOMENAL IN A 2-1 VICTORY.

The Melfort Mustangs staged a rather impressive upset Wednesday night when they beat the Sherwood Division leading Flin Flon Bombers 2 to 1. This victory came on the shoulders of Evan Plotnik who put on a goaltending clinic in Melfort’s net, stopping 45 of 46 shots to pick up the victory. Andrew Thompson managed his 3rd and 4th goals of the season as he scored both of Melfort’s markers, with Dakota Boutin picking up two assists, and Rock Ruschkowski  also finding the score sheet with an assist. Flin Flon has only lost two games in the month of November, and they were both to the Mustangs.

This victory gives Melfort another two points and places us three points back of Nipawin in the Sherwood Division, and 8 back of the Division leading Bombers. With a current record of 11-3-1-3 Melfort sits at 8th overall in the league and has a chance to improve to 7th this weekend during back to back home games. It’s far from a guaranteed scenario, as Melfort will need all 4 of the possible points, and hope that Nipawin doesn’t pick up any in their two games, but it is possible. With the Christmas break quickly approaching every win counts, but so does the performance of the other teams.

Melfort is back in action Friday night when the will host Melville at 7:30. Humboldt will be visiting on Saturday night as the Mustangs look to extend their current two game win streak.
