DESPITE PLAYING A STRONG GAME, THE MUSTANGS SUFFER A 4-2 LOSS AGAINST THE FLIN FLON BOMBERS
Melfort played a great game but ultimately came up short against one of the top teams in the Sher-Wood division this weekend. After the long bus trip to Flin Flon, the Mustangs struggled to find the scoresheet, trailing 2-0 after the first period despite out shooting the Bombers 11-10. The second period saw Flin Flon score again before Matthew Hermary responded with his sixth of the year, unassisted on the penalty kill. This goal let Melfort carry some momentum into the third with Kayle Tosh closing the gap to one with some help from Kalem Zary and Reed Gunville less than two minutes into the final frame. The attempted come back was short lived however, as Flin Flon would add their fourth and final goal 2 minutes later. With a final score of 4-2, the Mustangs suffer the loss, and their record becomes 20-28-2-4 for a total of 46 points, a single point above the Melville Millionaires for the last play-off spot. Derrick Hucul had the start and he registered 34 saves in an admirable effort against one of the top teams in the SJHL. The Mustangs are back in action Tuesday night as they make the trip to La Ronge for their last game against the Ice Wolves this season.
