Melfort Skates Away with Overtime Victory

MELFORT PICKS UP A WIN IN THE DYING SECONDS OF OVERTIME

The Melfort Mustangs skate away with a win in Melville, but almost sixty five minutes of play were needed. In a very close game Melfort’s Jaxon Joseph opened the scoring midway through the second period. That goal was assisted by Tanner Zentner and Justin Ball, and it would be the only marker until Melville tied the game up with 7 minutes to play in the third. Regulation time didn’t solve the tie, and it took almost all of overtime to finish up as Tyler Heidt scored his third of the year with a single second remaining in the extra frame. Heidt’s goal was assisted by team captain Sam Houtson. Derrick Hucul was the go to goalie of the night, stopping 29 of 30 total shots to earn his first win of the year for the Mustangs.

That win improves Melfort’s standing to 14-14-1-4-2 for a point total of 33 and 7th place overall. The Mustangs will be back in action December 14 when the visit the Yorkton Terriers to wrap up their southern road trip.
