Mustangs and Hawks Open Pre Christmas Home and Home

The 2018 SJHL Schedule wraps up this weekend for the Melfort Mustangs and Nipawin Hawks when they renew acquaintances and head into the Christmas Break with a home and home. Tonight they meet in Melfort with the return game going tomorrow in Nipawin. Both games start at 7:30pm. Following tonight’s game the Mustangs are holding a skate with the team! It will happen immediately following the hockey game, everyone is welcome!

The Melfort Mustangs have been rolling as of late. With a 3-0-1 record in their last 4 the Mustangs have closed the gap and sit just 2 points back of Nipawin for top spot in the SJHL, with 2 games in hand. Justin Ball and Carson Albrecht have been absolutely on fire in December. The two have combined for 27 points in 5 games. Yes 14 goals and 27 points in just 5 games. because of that they sit 1 and 2 in SJHL scoring with 62 and 55 points respectively. Add in the centreman Tanner Zentner who had a 4 point game last time out, and the top line in the SJHL has combined for 148 points already.

The Nipawin Hawks have been riding high as well lately, except they’ve done it a little differently. Thanks to the great play of their back end the Hawks do lead the SJHL with 50 points, and have been a force this season. They’ve been led from the back end out thanks to the great goaltending duo of Declan Hobbs and Patrick Pugliese. Hobbs has a 14-8-1 record and leads the league with a 1.75 GAA and a .942 Save Percentage. Pugliese has been no slouch either, he has a 10-1-1 record with a 1.85 GAA and a .935 Save Percentage.
