Mustangs Hit a Roadbump

The Melfort Mustangs tried to continue their winning ways on Saturday September 24th, but they ran into a Notre Dame Hounds team that was ready for them. The Hounds managed to beat the Mustangs with a final score of 6-2, but Melfort did have some notable plus sides in the contest. Saskatoon born Tyler Heidt notched his first SJHL goal, while veteran defenseman Adam Hergott managed to get involved in both points, scoring the first goal and assisting on Heidt’s. Unfortunately this game was only the start of Melfort’s slide into the loss column.

Sunday September 25th saw the Melfort Mustangs play their first game in the annual SJHL Showcase where we went up against the Battleford North Stars. The North Stars occupy spot number 2 on the Source Embroidery SJHL Power Rankings, one spot above the back to back Canalta Cup winning Mustangs. The Stars arguably earned that spot on the list as they shut Melfort out, and hung up 4 points on the score board against us.

The Stangs will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they play their final game of the Showcase at the Legends Arena in Warman at 10:00AM against the Estevan Bruins.
