Mustangs host Bombers for Halloween fun

After a big 4-1 win at the Whitney Forum in Flin Flon on Tuesday, the Mustangs welcome the Bombers to Melfort tonight for the rematch.

Things started off a little slow for the Mustangs on Tuesday. They gave up the first goal of the game to Brandon Cianflone just 5:22 in. The Bombers controlled the first few minutes of the game but then it flipped. It was all Mustangs the rest of the way. At 12:33 of the first Deklan Whillans would score his first goal as a Mustang with assists going to Gabe Odowichuk and Kenzie Arnold. Just 3 minutes after that Ryley Lanthier would score his 4th as a Mustang and the boys from Melfort would take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission, out-shooting the Bomber 17-5 in the frame.

In the second the goaltenders stood tall as neither team could beat Tanner Martin or Jacob Delorme. Bombers out shot the Mustangs in the second 9-5.

In the third period, the Mustangs would take over once again, 4:51 into the period Greg Parker got on the score sheet with assists going to Colton Schell and Tyson Meyers. Christian Albertson would then put it away for good putting the Mustangs up 4-1 with a great wrist shot just over halfway through the period. Marco Lopez and Colby Brett would assist that goal. Mustangs out shot the Bombers 19-3 in the third period and 41-18 overall.

In goal on Tuesday, Tanner Martin looked great. He only faced 18 total shots but stopping 17 of them is as close as it gets to a perfect game, especially up in Flin Flon. He picked up the big win, his 4th win of the season in just 5 games. He increases his numbers to a 2.57 GAA and .912 save percentage on the year.

Tonight sets up the rematch this time from the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort. Tuesday the Mustangs were able to shut down the Bombers top line of Alec Malo, Donavan Houle-Villeneuve and Cole Rafuse. The trio have combined for nearly 100 points already and carry the majority of the load offensively for Flin Flon.

Tonight’s game begins at 7:30pm from the Palace and it’s Halloween! Any kids under 12 who dress up for Halloween get into the game free tonight! There will also be a costume contest taking place on the ice at the second intermission! So if you’re out and about trick or treating tonight stop by the Mustang game after for a great battle with the Bombers!
