Mustangs host Bruins in pivotal Game 5

The Melfort Mustangs and Estevan Bruins are set to meet in what’s the biggest game of the season. Tonight is Game 5 with the series now tied 2-2.

After taking care of business on home ice in Games 1 and 2, the Melfort Mustangs hit the road and dropped the next two games in Estevan, Games 3 and 4.

In Game 3 the Bruins came out with some jump and got the first goal from Turner Ripplinger. The Mustangs would answer back just like they did in Games 1 and 2 with a Zach Anderson goal 27 seconds later. The Bruins would add another before the end of the first period to take a 2-1 lead. In the second period, Estevan extended the lead to 3-1 and that’s all they’d need. Colin Schmidt brought the game back a little closer as it would end in a 3-2 final.

In Game 4 the Bruins were all over the Mustangs and put up 4 goals by the 13 minute mark of the first period. Following the bad start the Mustangs picked it up and outplayed the Bruins for the remainder of the game. Goals from Jake Hobson late in the first and then Colin Schmidt in the second would give the Mustangs a chance. Estevan shut it down in the third and rolled to a 4-2 win on home ice.

With the series now tied at 2 it becomes a Best of 3. Game 5 is tonight in Melfort while Game 6 goes Sunday in Estevan. Game 7 if necessary will be Tuesday in Melfort as the Mustangs had more points during the regular season. Each remaining game starts at 7:30pm. Tickets for tonight are selling fast so make sure to drop by the ticket office today to get yours, or get them online at tickets.melfortmustangs.com and avoid the line.
