Mustangs host Parents and Billets in big weekend homestand.

The Melfort Mustangs held their annual Parent/Billet weekend this past Friday and Saturday. While the team took 3 of 4 points in games against Nipawin and Weyburn it was a great weekend to welcome out of town parents, and celebrate all the work the billets put in over the course of the season.

The Mustangs would like to thank all the Parent’s for making the trip to Melfort, as well as the Billet’s for all their hard work throughout the season!

Fri Dec 1, Nipawin-4 @ Melfort-3 OT

The Melfort Mustangs got out to a nice start and lead over the Nipawin Hawks on Friday night. But a tough 3rd period allowed the Hawks to get back in it, coming from down 3-1 to defeat the Mustangs 4-3 in OT. Tristen Elder scored twice for the Mustangs while Kalem Zary had the other. Evan Plotnik made 44 saves on 48 shots in the contest.

Sat Dec 2nd, Weyburn-3 @ Melfort-4

Saturday night the Mustangs welcomed the Red Wings to the Northern Lights Palace. Loch Morrison scored early on the Power Play to put Melfort up 1-0. Justin Ball would add a pair while Carson Albrecht also tallied for the Mustangs as they would defeat the Red Wings 4-3. Thanks to a late Power Play and a great feed from Reed Gunville, Justin Ball scored the game winner with just 1:44 to play in regulation. With 3 points on the weekend the Mustangs move to 19-5-4-1 on the season and remain in first place in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Next up for the Mustangs is their lone game of the week. Wednesday night in La Ronge against the Ice Wolves. It’s a slow month for the Mustangs as they have just 5 games remaining in December. Dec 12th @ Yorkton, Dec 15th @ Battleford, Dec 16th @ Kindersley and Dec 22nd vs Humboldt.
