The Melfort Mustangs are excited to receive a donation from one of their former teams.

The 1995/1996 Mustangs donated $3,500 earlier this year to the team to help the team through losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

General Manager of the 95/96 team, Leonard Strandberg said that team was always a tight knit group, and remain a close group to this day.

“It was as tight of a team as I’ve ever had,” Strandberg said. “And they’re still close to this day.”

The current Mustangs also have some close connections with the 95/96 team as current Head Coach Trevor Blevins was an Assistant Captain of that team, and Head Scout Travis Stevenson was the Captain. Strandberg said there’s always been kinship with the teams, and having some former teammates still involved makes it easy to help out the club.

The 95/96 Mustangs were inducted into the SJHL Hall of Fame in 2014. They held a 44-14-6 record in the SJHL regular season, won the SJHL Championship, and finished second at the RBC Cup, held in Melfort that season.

The Mustangs are very grateful for this donation from their alumni.
