Mustangs to meet Hawks for third time this season

The Melfort Mustangs and Nipawin Hawks will meet tonight for the third time this season. After wins on opening weekend the Mustangs have the upper hand in the season series as well as the overall SJHL Standings.

Previous Meetings

Fri Sept 15th Nipawin-3 @ Melfort-4 F/OT

Sat Sept 16th Melfort-5 @ Nipawin-3 Final

For Melfort, they’ve been the hottest team in the SJHL so far this season. They’ve ran their record to 6-0-0-0 and are one of only a few teams left undefeated in Canada. Because of that, the Mustangs are ranked 3rd nationally. Evan Plotnik has been a big reason why Melfort is 6-0-0-0 at this point. He’s been close to perfect in the net with a .936 Save Percentage and a 1.66 GAA. Upfront the Mustangs have had the luxury of scoring from all 4 lines. With great depth acquisitions this summer/fall  they’ve been able to get scoring help throughout the lineup.

For the Nipawin Hawks, they’re off to a strong start as well this season. Despite dropping their opening two games the Hawks have won three straight and are looking at making up some ground on Melfort for the division lead. Michael Grant and Brett Harasymuk have provided the majority of the scoring punch for the Hawks this season. They both sit tied for the team lead in scoring with 8 points on the year.
