Tonight is Game 3 of the Canalta Cup Finals! After splitting the first two games in Battlefords the Mustangs return home for a much anticipated third game of the series, and first at the Northern Lights Palace. Tickets are on sale now at the Mustang office or online at tickets.melfortmustangs.com. A near capacity crowd is expected tonight!

The series kicked off in Battlefords on Friday night for game 1. Despite outplaying the North Stars and out-shooting them in the first period the two teams headed to the first intermission scoreless. In the Second, the Northstars would tack on a pair from Noah Form and Ryan Gil. They would take that 2-0 lead into the second intermission. In the third period Jake Hobson got a great pass from Kayle Tosh as the Mustangs would get one back. Battlefords would add another and go up 3-1 shortly after. Tyson Meyers would then score his first of the playoffs as he banged home a rebound in front, but that’s as close as the Mustangs would get. The North Stars would add on three more goals late in the third period and take the game 6-2.

Game 2 was a different story. As the Mustangs went to Shawn Parkinson between the pipes the move would pay off, as he was out standing. The lone goal of the game came from Jake Hobson as he ripped home a shot from the boards in the second period. He beat the glove hand of Joel Gryzbowski clean making it 1-0 Mustangs in the second period. After that, the Mustangs would lock it down as Shawn Parkinson would pick up the 28 save shutout in the win. The series is now tied 1-1 heading back to Melfort.
