The Melfort Mustangs (7-2-2-0) return home tonight for a meeting with the Battleford North Stars (10-1-0-0). It’s the first meeting of 2019-20 and is a rematch of last year’s Canalta Cup Finals, in which the Northstars won in 5 games. Tonight’s game begins at 7:30pm and to avoid ticket lines get tour tickets online, at tickets.melfortmustangs.com.

The Mustangs come into the Wednesday night meeting following a home and home with the Humboldt Broncos. Neither game started off well for the Stangs as they fell behind, but come from behind efforts gave the Mustangs 3 of 4 possible points on the weekend, with an 5-4 OT loss at home and 7-4 win in Humboldt. Offensively, Marco Lopez lit the lamp 4 times in Humboldt which led the way for the Mustangs. Scoring 11 goals in 2 nights Albertson, Anderson, Meyers(2), Arnold, Kadachuk and Smith had the other 7 goals. In goal, Shawn Parkinson picked up the lone win of the weekend Saturday night. Although Parkinson has played more games than Tanner Martin, goaltending proves to be one of the strengths of the Mustangs this season as both Martin and Parkinson have very similar numbers through 11 games.

The Battleford North Stars come into tonight’s game with a 10-1-0-0 record on the season, the clear cut top team in the SJHL thus far. They’ve currently won 3 straight since losing their first game of the season in Yorkton. During the 3 game win streak in Melville, Estevan and Weyburn the North Stars have only allowed 2 total goals. Goaltending from presumed starter Adam Dmyterko has been outstanding. He’s yet to lose as he’s 7-0 on the season with a 1.86 Goals Against Average and a .944 Save Percentage. The goal scoring for the Stars has come in bunches. With 7 players already in double digits for Points, the Stars have a very balanced attack and can come at you in waves. Matthias Urbanski leads the team with 15 Points on the year.

Tonight’s game has a 7:30pm puck drop at the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort. As mentioned before the best place to get tickets is online at tickets.melfortmustangs.com. With the Mustang ticket office opening at 6pm and only being “best available” seats this year, online is the way to go. You can pick your preferred seat from the map allowing you your choice of section and seat, as well as you skipping the ticket office line at the palace! See you tonight!
