Hawks Take the Rematch

Win 2-1 at The Palace

Nipawin Hawks 2   Melfort Mustangs 1

Dexter Bricker's third period goal proved to be the winner as the Nipawin Hawks earned a victory on the road against their bitter rivals.

The Hawks opened the scoring in the first period when Garrett Lockeridge snapped home his first career goal. Lockeridge wouldn't see much ice after that... More on that later.

The Mustangs tied things up on the powerplay when Brennan Bosovich picked up his 6th goal of the season three minutes after the Hawks opened the scoring.

The second period was jam packed with big hits, fights and scrappy play. Hawks forward Garrett Lockeridge was thrown out after cross checking Godric Tham in the mouth after the whistle. Tham went for stitches and Lockeridge was given a 5 minute match penalty for intent to injure.

The Mustangs would fail to convert on the ensuing powerplay and things got heated after Cody Brown road Wheaton King out in front of the bench. King's head caught the stanchion and sent him flying. Grant Jensen jumped in and the two wrestled to the ice.

Off the ensuing faceoff Zach Walker and Taylor Balog dropped the mitts and took part in one of the more spirited tilts of the season.

Over 55 minutes in penalties were issued in the middle frame.

Bricker's winner with under 5 minutes to go moves the Hawks to 8-7-1-3 while the Mustangs slip to 7-11-0-1.

It was a battle of the backups as Patrick Johnson made 28 saves while Jordan Liam kicked aside 18.

The Mustangs head to Humboldt on Tuesday.
