With their backs against the wall on Friday night the Melfort Mustangs were looking for any type of spark to try and extend the North Division Semi-Final to a sixth game.
Preston Eshenko got things heading in the right direction when he netted his first goal of the playoffs just 5 minutes into the game.
It wouldn't take the Broncos long to respond as Dylan Fluter scored on a powerplay just 2:25 later to even the score at one.
Joey Davies would end the period on a high note for the Broncos has he slid home is 7th of the series with 4:30 to go in the frame to give the Broncos their first lead of the game.
Carter Page and Cody Poncgraz scored just 4 minutes apart to kick off the second period with a bang and chase Jesse Wilkins from the net. For Wilkins, it would be the last time he would see the ice as a Melfort Mustang. The Calgary product made 17 stops on 21 shots before Patrick Johnson came on in relief. Johnson made 14 saves on 15 shots.
Joey Davies would add one more before the period was over to give Humboldt a comfortable 5-1 lead heading to the third.
Brandon Parrone scored in his last ever junior game on the powerplay to end the night on a high note for the Mustangs but it wasn't enough.
With the win, the Broncos advance to the North Division Final for the 2nd straight year.
They await the winner of the Nipawin/Flin Flon series. (FF leads 3-2.)
