Spotlight on Sheldon Argent

Local Boy Brings Leadership

His numbers don’t make his name jump off the scoresheet, but Sheldon Argent’s leadership certainly does.

Having been the captain of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League’s Tisdale Trojans during his final year of midget eligibility, the home-grown winger of the Melfort Mustangs spent the 2012-13 season getting adjusted to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and his role in the playoffs has set him up for an even bigger year next season.

Argent spent two years with the Trojans and during that time had a sprinkling of exposure with the Mustangs before landing a full-time position with Melfort last year.

In 59 games with Tisdale, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound winger had 10 goals and 17 assists and in 48 regular-season games with Melfort over the past couple of seasons he had collected just one goal.

With the Mustangs returning to the playoffs for the first time in a couple of years this past spring, Argent had one goal and one assist in eight games as Melfort swept the Battlefords Stars before falling to the Humboldt Broncos in the second round.

Having just turned 19 years old in March, Argent has two more years of junior eligibility remaining and the Mustangs will be looking to him for his continued leadership on and off the ice.
