May 27, 2013 – The Melfort Mustangs are proud to announce that graduating forward Godric Tham has agreed to join the Augustana Vikings of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference next season.
Tham was acquired by the Mustangs during the 2011/2012 season from the Melville Millionaires and became one of the top scorers on the team over the next two seasons.
The former UFA Bison appeared in 87 games for the Mustangs and netted 25 goals and 29 assists for 54 points. In eight playoff games this past season, Tham lead the team with 6 goals and 6 assists including the overtime winner in game one of the SJHL’s North Division Semi-Final vs Humboldt.
“This is a great opportunity” said Tham.
“Ever since I’ve played hockey I have wanted to continue my career as long as I can so this is definitely a privilege.”
Tham is the third Mustang to move on to the college ranks this month. He follows in the footsteps of goalie Jesse Wilkins (Bemidji St.) and defenseman Brandon Parrone (St. Scholastica).
“I want to thank everyone in Melfort, and even in Melville too from my rookie season” said Tham.
“I want to say thanks to Gavin (Holcomb) and Dwight (Kulchysky) for helping me out in my two years here.”
The ACAC has become a hotbed for SJHL alumni the past few years. Ten players from this past season have already committed to ACAC Schools for the 2013/2014 season.
Former Mustangs David Ritz and Harrison Tribble are currently members of the Vikings.
The Mustangs would like to wish Godric and the Augustana Vikings the best of luck next season.
