CANALTA HOTELS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (period ending October 20)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Sebastien Beauregard, La Ronge Ice Wolves
1993 F Sebastien Beauregard (Bromont PQ) continued to score goals at breakneck speed over the last week, tallying six during a four game road trip.  He notched two in a road win over Humboldt on Tuesday and then got a single one night later in Notre Dame.  Over the weekend, he accounted for his team’s only score in a loss to Melville on Friday and then picked up two more on Saturday in a one goal defeat at the hands of the Yorkton Terriers.  For the season, Beauregard has goals in nine of eleven games played and he leads the SJHL with 13-goals and 4-assists in 11-games played.

DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Kyle Schmidt, Battlefords North Stars
1993 D Kyle Schmidt (Waldheim SK) collected three assists in four games played last week as he rounds into form following a late start to the year due to injury.  Schmidt set up his team’s first two goals on Wednesday night as they defeated the Melfort Mustangs.  He also assisted on a goal in Sunday’s 4-3 loss at  Humboldt.  For the season, Schmidt has 1-goal and 5-assists in 7-games played.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Travis Mayan, Melfort Mustangs
1995 F Travis Mayan (Rimbey AB) is getting more and more accustomed to the Junior ‘A’ game with each passing day.  Mayan picked up a goal and four assists in three games played last week and looks like he could be one of the more dangerous players in the league if given a bit more development time.  Mayan had back to back two point games on Wednesday, at home, against Battlefords and on Thursday in Weyburn.  He got an assist on Saturday in Estevan too and has been on the scoresheet in every game but one this season.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Jack Romaniuk, Melfort Mustangs
1994 G Jack Romaniuk (Melfort SK) backstopped his club to a pair of victories last week on the road as he made just his second and third appearances of the year.  Thursday night, he overcame a tough start as the Mustangs fell behind early despite badly outshooting the Red Wings only to allow his club time to recover and post a win.  He stopped 43-of-44 one night later in Estevan.  For the year, Romaniuk is now 2-and-1, with a 2.35-GAA and a .934-SPCT.
