It may have been a long bus ride, but how worthwhile it must have been.
Travis Mayan exploded for four goals and Anthony Pickering had four points of his own as the Melfort Mustangs thrashed the Ice Wolves 7-1 at the Mel Hegland Uniplex in La Ronge.
As usual, the Mustangs received stout goaltending between the pipes, as Jack Romanuik turned aside 31 saves for the win.
Melfort came flying out of the gates, as Mayan, Pickering and Adam Fauchoux found the back of the net in the first period to build a 3-0 lead.
The Mustangs, and more specifically Travis Mayan, took advantage of six power play opportunities.
Mayan scored all four of his goals on the PP in the contest, while Cole Hrysky also got into the scoring act, netting one while tallying an assist.
La Ronge broke the shutout with a meaningless third period goal.
The victory felt like a statement game, as the Mustangs thwarted their Sherwood divisional rivals.
The Ice Wolves began their season with six straight wins, but have gone 3-5 since then.
The Mustangs are now at 7-6-0-1 on the year, and just three points back of the Ice Wolves for first in the division.
Melfort will take the long bus ride up north again on Sunday for a rematch with La Ronge.
If last night was any indication, they should be well prepared.
