The Nipawin Hawks defeated the Melfort Mustangs last night at home, 5-2, to even up the season series at 1 game apiece, between the 2 bitter Sherwood Division rivals.
The Mustangs got out to a quick start, and got a quick 1-0 lead off a redirection by Regan Wilton at the tail-end of a Power Play.
The second period was mainly controlled by the Hawks, who tallied 3 times in the middle frame.
The turning point of the game came not even 3:30 into the second, after Taylor Balog tied the game for Nipawin, he took a 10 minute misconduct, following a bench minor and a minor penalty awarded to his team already.
When it looked like the cart was off the tracks for the Hawks, they killed the penalties, gained momentum, and skated away with the win.
Steven Glass turned a shaky start into a great performance, making 30 saves, many of which were of the highlight reel variety.
Jack Romanuik had a strong performance in his own right in the Melfort crease, turning aside 40 of 45 shots.
Both teams will be in action again tonight.
Melfort hosts Weyburn, and the Hawks host Battlefords.
Both games are 7:30
