December 2, 2013, 2013

The Melfort Mustangs have traded twenty-year-old Assistant Captain Matt Saunderson to the Drumheller Dragons for nineteen-year-old forward Jacob Bonin.

Saunderson leaves the Mustangs as the longest serving member of the club. The Saskatoon product appeared in 130 games for the organization and put up 49 points in the process. As well Saunderson was named the clubs Most Improved Player in 2011 and the Most Valuable Defenseman in 2012.

Bonin comes to Melfort from Sudbury Ontario where he was the captain of the AAA Sudbury Wolves that appeared in the 11/12 Telus Cup.

In three seasons in AAA, Bonin had 83 points in 81 games before beginning his Junior ‘A’ career with the Aurora Tigers of the OJHL.

In 10 games this season with Drumheller, the 5’11 forward has two goals and two assists.

The Mustangs would like to thank Matt for his excellent community involvement and commitment to the hockey club over the last three years and wish him the best of luck in the future.

As well, the club would like to welcome Jacob to Melfort.
