Ring in the New Year With a Win

The Melfort Mustangs rang in 2014 with a convincing win over their Sher-Wood Division Rivals at The Cage Tuesday night.

After a scoreless first period, Tristan Frei opened the scoring with his 5th of the season.

Moments later Dawven Berggren notched his first career SJHL goal to make it 2-0.

The Mustangs continued the onslaught moments later when Riley Boomgaarden picked up a powerplay marker to give the Stangs a 3-0 lead.

The Hawks came on strong in the final minutes of the 2nd and got a powerplay goal from Reece Forman to cut the lead to 2.

Early in the third, Tad Kozun turned the puck over while breaking out of his own zone and turned the puck over to Tristan Frei who walked in alone a burried his 2nd goal of the night.

That proved to be the final nail in the coffin as Austin Rediron made 41 stops to carry the club to the win. The win moves the Mustangs into a tie for 2nd place in the Sher Wood Division with the Flin Flon Bombers. Just one point back of the Hawks for first place.

The two teams will meet tonight at The Palace at 7:30.

The game sponsor is Vital Signs and Graphics who will raffle off an Ipad and a Signed Mustangs Jersey with all the funds going to MUCC Comet Athletics.

Its also the final night to get your Drive or Shine Raffle Tickets. We will make the draw following the game!
