Mustangs Punch Ticket to Final

By, 04/06/15, 10:00AM CST

Matchup With Notre Dame Awaits

The top-ranked Melfort Mustangs are off to the Canalta Cup finals, disposing of the Nipawin Hawks in five games, capped with Saturday's 7-2 decision in Game 5 at home.

The lopsided clinching score and short series might mask a series that was incredibly tight, with each of the first four games decided by a goal, including three in overtime.  The Hawks actually led the series, after winning the opener in overtime, before the Mustangs rattled off four straight.

Adam Fauchoux (2g-2a) and Justin Boyer (1g-3a) each had four point nights.  Travis Mayan added a pair of goals, Tristan Frei had three helpers, while Teal Sobkowicz and Regan Wilton also scored.  Richard Palmer made 31/33 saves in the win.

Garret Lockeridge and Garrett Dunlop replied for the Hawks.

Game #1 of the Canalta Cup Final will be held on Friday at The Palace at 7:30. The remaining games will be determined ASAP.

Catch every game of the series on CK750 with Branden Crowe and Alex Besko. The pre-game show will begin 20 minutes prior to puck drop!
