The Melfort Mustangs have the early lead in the 2015 Canalta Cup Final, scoring five times in the third period to pad a 7-1 decision in Game 1 Friday.
Eric Sinclair and Travis Mayan scored first period goals, and it stayed 2-0 Melfort until just past the five minute mark of the third period, when Adam Fauchoux scored his first of three goals in a twelve minute span. Sam Aulie cut it to 3-1, scoring the Hounds' only goal, but Fauchoux restored the three goal cushion and never looked back.
Fauchoux finished the night with four points (3g-1a), while linemate Cole Hyrsky was in on every goal that Fauchoux was, chipping in four assists. Justin Boyer (1g-1a) and Nick Hermary also scored in Game 1 for the Mustangs, who were actually out-shot 32-30 despite the lopsided scoreboard in their favour. Richard Palmer made 31 saves in the victory.
The two teams take a short break, before Game 2 happens Monday night in Wilcox.
