3-2 Win in Wilcox

The Melfort Mustangs have a 2-0 series lead in the Canalta Cup Final after a 3-2 win in Wilcox last night.

For the 5th straight game the Melfort Mustangs scored the opening goal of the game.

Travis Mayan was the beneficiary of a luck bounce midway thru the opening frame as he tapped home his 10th of the playoffs to give Melfort the 1-0 lead.

Two minutes later Andrew Durham snapped home his first of the playoffs on the tail end of an odd man rush to give Melfort the 2-0 lead.

With less than one second in the 1st period Spencer Trapp would pounce on a rebound and cut the Stangs lead to one at the first intermission.

After going 0/5 on the PP in the first 45 minutes of the hockey game, Adam Fachoux finally broke through the Hounds PK at the 16 minute mark of the 2nd potting his 13th of the playoffs on the tail end of a 5 on 3.

Much like in the first period, the Hounds would quickly respond.

For the 2nd straight game Sam Aulie found himself on the board with a PP marker. This time coming just moments after the Mustangs built a two goal lead.

Richard Palmer would take over in the third period stopping all seven of the shots he faced to help the Mustangs to a 3-2 win and a 2-0 series lead.

Final shots were 27-22 Melfort while both teams had one powerplay goal. Melfort on seven opportunities, ND on just five.

Attendance in Wilcox was just shy of 800, with around 200 being fans in Melfort Blue and Green.

Game three of the Canalta Cup goes Wednesday at The Palace.

The box office will be open from 12-6 tomorrow (Tuesday) and will open at 9:00am on Game Day!
