Stangs Remain Perfect in the Playoffs

By Bear gets the OT Winner, 04/02/16, 9:30AM CST

It was a solid game for the home side Friday night at the Northern Lights Palace as the Melfort Mustangs remain unbeaten in the 2016 Canalta Cup Playoffs. There was no score after the first period as Evan Plotnik made some great saves on the penalty kill. The Mustangs got rolling in the second and third periods picking up two power play goals by Mayan and Frei before seeing the lead evaporate in the final minute of the third stanza. Fortunately the boys were able to shake that off and came out strong in overtime as Kirk Bear wired home a shot from the point on the power play to ignite the home crowd and give the Mustangs a 1 to nothing series lead. Game two goes Saturday in Nipawin. Fans are encouraged to phone ahead for tickets as the game could be a sellout. The box office in Nipawin opens at 4:00 PM Saturday.
