It was a great day for The Mustangs, as Melfort broke out of an eight game winless streak on Wednesday night. The offensive production was spearheaded by a new comer to the club, one of three who strapped on their gear for the first time as Melfort Mustangs.
In his first game with the Mustangs, former Humboldt Bronco Rock Ruschkowski hung up two goals on the scoreboard. Ruschkowski was held off the scoresheet in four games with Humboldt this season, but had 13 points (6g-7a) in 51 games a year ago as a rookie. He played on a line with fellow newcomer Andrew Thompson, who had also spent time with the Broncos, but had been traded to the Whitecourt Wolverines of the AJHL. The line was centered by long time Melfort veteran Dakota Boutin who managed a goal and two assists in the contest.
Players who had already spent some time in Melfort also added to the production, with Jaxon Joseph tallying three points (1g-2a), and Justin Ball putting up his first SJHL goal (perhaps a gift for his Billet mom's birthday?) Miles Warkentine also found his way to the score sheet with a pair of assists in the game.
Ryan Ternes made his first start in goal for the Mustangs (4-7-0-1), making 22/26 saves for the win. Ternes joins the team from Calgary, where he spent time as both a Calgary Mustang and a Calgary Canuck.
The Mustangs will be looking to maintain some momentum from this win going into Saturday's contest against the visiting Melville Millionaires.
