The Melfort Mustangs will meet the Nipawin Hawks for the 9th and 10th time this season as they wrap up the season series with another home and home. The Mustangs head north tonight to meet the Hawks at the Cage. They return to the Northern Lights Palace tomorrow.
For Melfort they've owned the season series winning 6 of 8 meetings, picking up 13 of a possible 16 points against the Hawks. Thanks to the success against the Nipawin Hawks the Mustangs have put together a strong season and sit with a 37-12-4-2 record. With 3 games remaining a shot at the 40 win plateau is not out of reach just yet. As far as the Standings go the final 3 games are meaningless for Melfort. They will meet the Humboldt Broncos in the 4v5 playoff matchup starting Mid-March.
Despite dropping 6 of 8 meetings against Melfort, the Nipawin Hawks still managed points in 5. With a 2-3-1-2 record head to head, the Hawks for the most part have been in each game they've played against the Mustangs. Proving why it is one of the top junior hockey rivalries in Saskatchewan. The Hawks can clinch the overall #1 seed in the SJHL this weekend. They currently sit 8 points up on Battlefords. The North Stars have 5 games remaining so a magic number of 3 points in favor of the Hawks, whether it be North Star losses or Hawks wins will get them the regular season crown. For the first time in almost 20 years, the Hawks have won the Sher-Wood division banner.
Tonight's game begins at 7:30pm from the Cage in Nipawin. It is a Mustang broadcast on CK750 with Mat Barrett. Tomorrow nights game back in Melfort is also a CK750 Broadcast.
