Along with the 2018 SJHL Bantam Draft on Sunday the Melfort Mustangs are proud to announce the four 2003' born auto protects that will be joining the organization.

Every team in the SJHL has the opportunity prior to the Bantam Draft, to auto protect local players, making them exempt from the Draft.

The Melfort Mustangs are proud to announce Brett Eastcott, Dagan Carlson, Jakob Atkinson and Nathan Hufnagel have been auto protected and will join the Melfort Mustangs organization.

All four players are graduating from Bantam  hockey and will play Midget this coming season. Let's break down the numbers from each of the four selections, in no particular  order.

D- Brett Eastcott, Melfort SK.

Brett has played the last two seasons with the North East Bantam AA Wolfpack. He's played 51 career regular season games with the Wolfpack scoring 6 goals and adding 15 assists. He had a break out year in 2017-18 putting up 18 points, more then .05 PPG as a defenceman. Welcome to the Mustangs Brett.

FW- Dagan Carlson, Melfort Sk,

Dagan joined Brett with the North East Bantam AA Wolfpack this season scoring at a tremendous pace. In 31 regular season games, Dagan scored 14 goals while adding 26 assists for a 40 point season. He also added 4 assists in 4 playoff games. Welcome to the Mustangs Dagan.

FW- Jakob Atkinson, Melfort Sk,

Jakob also played with the North East Bantam AA Wolfpack this season. In his first full season with Wolfpack he scored 4 goals and added 10 assists in 29 games played. In 2016-17, Jakob played 4 games with the Wolfpack registering 3 assists. Welcome to the Mustangs Jakob.

D- Nathan Hufnagel, Melfort Sk,

Rounding out the auto protects of the Melfort Mustangs is Defenceman Nathan Hufnagel. Nathan played alongside Jakob, Brett and Dagan with the Northeast Bantam AA Wolfpack this season. From the back end he scored 1 goal and added 5 assists in 31 games. He also picked up an assist in 4 playoff games. Welcome to the Mustangs Nathan.

All 4 Mustang auto-protects will move on to midget aged hockey this season, and hopefully one day suit up for the Mustangs at the Northern Lights Palace. With 4 auto protects and 6 drafted players the future looks bright for the Mustangs and the 2003' born age group. Time will tell if they can push for a championship like they did back to back in 2015 and 2016.
