Ochitwa commits to Alvernia University

The Melfort Mustangs are proud to announce that defenceman Lucas Ochitwa has made a commitment to Alvernia University for the 2022-2023 hockey season.

Ochitwa, a 2001-born defenceman out of Wadena, Sask has played his entire Junior A career with the Mustangs. He was the 11th overall pick in the 2016 SJHL Bantam Draft and first played for the Mustangs in the 2018/2019 season as an affiliate.

“I’m extremely excited to announce my commitment to Alvernia University,” Ochitwa said. “I have greatly enjoyed my time with the Mustangs, and am super excited to move on to another great organization next season.”

In his first season, Ochitwa played 50 regular season games, scoring three goals, and adding 11 assists for 14 points. He also dressed for one playoff game as the Mustangs made the SJHL Final.

Ochitwa also played four games in the 2020-2021 season before the COVID-19 shutdown.

To begin this season, Ochitwa has one goal and four assists for five points in 10 games.

Prior to his time in Melfort, Ochitwa played three seasons for the Swift Current Legionnaires U18 AAA club, and two seasons with the Humboldt Broncos U15 AA squad.

The Alvernia Golden Wolves are entering their first season in the NCAA Div. III ranks. Alvernia University is located in Reading, Pensylvania, U.S.A.
