Phillips Commits to Melfort for 2023/2024 Season

The Melfort Mustangs are excited to announce that 2005-born defenceman Kaden Phillips has committed to the Mustangs for the 2023/2024 season.

Phillips (6’1”/172lbs), out of Olds, Alta., spent last season with the Lethbridge Hurricanes U18 AAA club. Serving as the teams Captain this season, Phillips scored one goal and added one assist in 16 games. He also scored one goal in three playoff games with the Hurricanes.

“Kaden is a strong defender that plays the game with a combination of skill and physicality,” said Mustangs Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins. “Being a Captain this past season, we like his leadership and character that will be great assets to our dressing room.”

During the 2021/2022 season, Phillips spent time at the Okanagan Hockey Academy playing mainly for the U17 Prep team. He notched 10 assists in 25 games that season along with seven assists in four playoff games. Phillips also played six games with the U18 Prep squad earning one assist.

Phillips was also drafted in the ninth round of the 2020 WHL Draft by the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
