Players of the Month: September

It was an interesting month of September for the Melfort Mustangs. The first month of the SJHL season saw the Mustangs go 2-3-2-0, gathering six points in the standings. To help the Mustangs to a 2-3-2-0 record, there were a bunch of stellar performances.

1st Star: Dawson Leroux (7gp, 3G, 4A, 7Pts)

The newly minted assistant captain was an offensive leader for the Mustangs in September, scoring three goals and adding four assists, no Mustang outscored Dawson Leroux. The Lethbridge product had points in five of seven games in September, including a streak of four straight games with at least one point.

2nd Star: Leith Olafson (7gp, 4G, 2A, 6Pts)

After scoring just three goals in 46 games in his rookie season, defenceman Leith Olafson has burst into the season with four goals through his first seven games, leading all Mustangs in September. The also newly minted Assistant Captain had a streak of four straight games with a goal between Sep. 17 and Sep. 27. No other SJHL defencemen had more goals than Olafson in the month of September.

3rd Star: Joel Favreau (7gp, 2-2-2, 2.38 GAA, .915 sv%, 1 shutout)

After a stellar SJHL playoffs in March, Joel Favreau has continued right where he left off to start the 2022/2023 SJHL season. The 20-year-old played in all seven games in September, earing a 2-2-2 record with a 2.38 goals-against-average, and a .915 save percentage. He would also tally his first shutout of the season with a 29 save performance at the SJHL showcase against Notre Dame.

The Mustangs are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 4 when they visit the Melville Millionaires.
