SJHL Awards – Ball for MVP, Albrecht for POTY

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey league announced the nominees for their five major awards this morning. Two Mustangs have been nominated as Sher-Wood Division representatives. Justin Ball has been nominated for SJHL MVP. While UND commit Carson Albrecht has been nominated for Player of the Year!

Ball, from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, currently leads the SJHL in goals with 49, as well as points with 91. He’s on pace for a 50 goal, 100 point season. The last time the SJHL had a 50 goal scorer was Travis Eggum during the 2010-11 season, when the La Ronge Ice Wolf had 58. Ball will be up against Turner Ripplinger of Estevan and Michael Clarke of Humboldt for the award.

Albrecht, from Martensville, Saskatchewan, has been nominated for the SJHL’s RBC Player of the Year. He currently sits third in the SJHL with 74 points. It’s been a big day for Albrecht, as he picked a great time to commit to the University of North Dakota, as he did so this morning. He will attend UND next fall and start playing hockey with their Div 1 program. Albrecht will be up against Turner Ripplinger of Estevan and Cody Spagrud of Battlefords for the award.

Both Carson Albrecht and Justin Ball will be back in action tomorrow night as the Mustangs host the Battleford North Stars at 7:30pm.
