Two Days! Mustangs host Broncos

The Melfort Mustangs and Humboldt Broncos will square off in two days in Game 1 of the Best 7 SJHL Quarter Final Series.

The series pits the Melfort Mustangs third best SJHL record(39-13-4-2) against the Humboldt Broncos fifth best SJHL record(33-19-3-3). Melfort and Humboldt have been two of the hottest teams in the SJHL over the last 10 games of the regular season.

Humboldt went 6-3-1 to close out the season including a 6-0 win over the Mustangs on Feb 19th. The Broncos have made solid trades this season solidifying their roster with players like Nick Shumlanski and Bryce Fiske. It should make for the best first round matchup in recent years.

The Mustangs also finished the season strong. Going 7-2-1 in their last ten games including a loss in a  meaningless game against Flin Flon to end the season. They had wins over Battleford, Notre Dame and Nipawin X3, in their last ten games. Including 7-3 and 9-2 beatings over the Hawks, the leagues top team and highest ranked nationally.

With both teams riding high into the best of 7 series, and the proximity of the teams being only an hour away. Each rink should be close to full each night with so much on the line and both clubs having good hockey teams this season.

Tickets for the first two games at the Northern Lights Palace are available at tickets.melfortmustangs.com. They’re also available at the Mustang box office from 10am to 4pm all week. Season ticket holders have until noon on game day to reserve their seats before they’re let go to the public!
