Weekend Sweep over Estevan and Flin Flon!

The Melfort Mustangs swept a pair of weekend games over the Estevan Bruins and Flin Flon Bombers. With the wins the Mustangs move to 18-5-3-1 on the season. 

Saturday Nov 25, 2017. Estevan Bruins- 2 @ Melfort Mustangs- 3

The Mustangs opened the scoring Saturday when Tristen Elder got his 3rd of the season midway through the opening period. Assists went to Loch Morrison and Reed Gunville. In the second, the Mustangs would extend the lead briefly as Justin Ball would get his 10th, assists to Drew Warkentine and Carson Albrecht. Estevan would answer back cutting the Mustang lead in half, now just 2-1. But in the third period, Colin Schmidt would put the game away for the Mustangs scoring the game winner at 11:56, Kalem Zary and Rock Ruschkowski would get the assists. Estevan would score a late goal to make it 3-2 but it's as close as they would come. Evan Plotnik slammed the door shut for his 12th win of the season. He made 32 saves on 34 shots for the win. Melfort moved to 17-5-3-1 on the season. Estevan slipped to 16-10-2-0. 

Sunday Nov 26 2017, Melfort Mustangs- 7 @ Flin Flon Bombers- 3

The following night the Mustangs would head North to meet the Flin Flon Bombers. It was scheduled for Nov 14th but thanks to bad weather had been postponed until last night. For the Melfort Mustangs it would work out in their favour as they would roll to a 7-3 victory over their Sherwood Division rivals.  Melfort would get first period goals from Loch Morrison and Adam Hergott. In the second, Justin Ball and Kayle Tosh would each score. They would finish it off in the third as Kayle Tosh would get his second of the night. Colin Schmidt and Tristen Elder would also score for the Stangs. Evan Plotnik got the call on back to back nights making 36 saves on 39 shots in the game. In doing so he picked up his second win in as many nights and helped move the Mustangs to 18-5-3-1 on the season. Over the weekend Plotnik made 68 saves on 73 shots. 

Now as the calendar turns to December the Mustangs come back home for a pair of games this weekend. It is the annual Parent Billet Appreciation weekend as Melfort hosts Nipawin and Weyburn on back to back nights. Game time Friday and Saturday are both 7:30pm. Friday night's game will be followed by the Mustang player/alumni shootout. Saturday's game is followed by the live on ice, Mustang 3rd jersey auction!
