Yorkton heads to Melfort for first and only time!

The Melfort Mustangs are back at home this evening when the Yorkton Terriers make their first and only trip to the Northern Lights Palace. The Mustangs and Terriers play their 4th meeting of the season tonight with the Terriers leading the season series 2 games to 1. Thanks to the SJHL Showcase early in the season the Mustangs played and won their only designated home game against the Terriers in Saskatoon 4-0 in September. The two meetings following the showcase saw the Terriers win both on home ice in what were two very close games. Tonight sets up to be a dandy as the two clubs go at it for the final time this season. With the Terriers on the outside of the playoff picture looking in, it will likely be the last time these teams meet until the fall of 2018.

For the Mustangs they’re coming off a home and home with the Nipawin Hawks on the weekend. The Mustangs managed to pick up a shootout victory on Friday night, but followed it up with a tough 4-2 defeat to the Hawks the following night. A game that saw the Mustangs end up shorthanded on the bench with only a few natural defencemen left by games end. The Mustangs are 7-3 in their last 10 games and are looking to ride high into the playoffs through the final 12 games.

The Yorkton Terriers are clinging to life as their season begins to run out. The Terriers sit with a 9-32-2-2 record and are 12 points back of Melville for the final wild card playoff spot. They’re coming off back to back losses to Weyburn, 6-0 and 8-5 on the weekend.
