The Melfort Mustangs continue a 5 game home stand this weekend with meetings against the Humboldt Broncos and Estevan Bruins. The Mustangs have now won two straight and are 8-2-0-0 in their last 10 games, the best mark in the SJHL.
Melfort – Humboldt: The Melfort, Humboldt rivalry was on display last season. In addition to the physical regular season meetings the two teams met in the SJHL Quarter-Final Series. Humboldt won the series in 5 games capturing the Bourgault Cup on Melfort home ice. This year around the Mustangs will be looking for revenge as they meet the team that eliminated them from the playoffs last year for the first time. Despite playing in separate division’s the one hour travel distance between Melfort and Humboldt has made for a solid rivalry. The two teams have met in the playoffs 6 times in the last 15 seasons.
Breast Cancer: During the month of October we recognize Breast Cancer and Breast Cancer Research. The Mustangs are trying to do their part this October by wearing special Breast Cancer Awareness jerseys throughout October during warm ups. As we near the end of the month, the jerseys are being put up for silent auction and your chance to own one is now! Bidding sheets will be available tonight and tomorrow at the Northern Lights Palace, during Mustang home games. Bidding ends at the second intermission tomorrow night. All money raised will go to breast cancer research! Thank you to TJ’s Pizza for sponsoring our Breast Cancer Research Jersey Design Contest and Auction!
